STA ADVANCE HOCKEY: Player Development Program 

St. Albert Minor Hockey is excited to introduce STA Advance Hockey to our Community hockey stream membership. This program has been designed to provide players who are interested in committing to additional development opportunities to advance their skills in hockey.

Under the guidance of our experienced staff, our program aims to advance the skills of all players. Our goal is to provide players with the necessary tools and techniques to become more confident and proficient in their game. We are committed to creating a positive learning environment in which players can excel and reach their full potential.

 

PROGRAM LEADERS

200 Hockey - Hockey skills professional Wade Burt and the staff of 200 Hockey will be leading the STA Advance skill and development sessions.

Wade is a former WHL and CIS (USport) athlete with over 20 years of experience as a hockey skills coach. He played over 270 games in the WHL and played five seasons with the University of Alberta Golden Bears.

Wade is currently a Jr. High School teacher and is the Director of St. Thomas More Junior High Hockey Academy. Wade and the staff of 200 Hockey work with a range of players in our association, including our Learn to Play, Intro to Hockey and Raiders programs.

Dave Rathjen Goaltending - Dave has been a valued partner of the St. Albert Raiders and St. Albert Minor Hockey for four years. He had a successful junior career in the WHL, BCHL, and with the University of Alberta Golden Bears.

Dave is currently the coach for the Swift Current Broncos (WHL) and the University of Alberta Golden Bears and Pandas programs.

Unlock your full potential between the pipes with our Goaltending Development Sessions.

Designed for aspiring goaltenders aged 8-16, this program offers a six-week comprehensive development experience that hones both fundamental skills and pushes goalies to advance their technique and skills.

Key Features:

Our clinic is led by Dave Rathjen, who has years of experience playing and coaching at various levels. All our instructors understand the nuances of the position and are dedicated to supporting goalies in our program.

We prioritize individualized instruction by maintaining a low coach-to-player ratio. This ensures that each goalie receives personalized feedback and guidance, allowing for skill improvement tailored to their unique strengths and areas for growth.

Our coaches will provide constructive feedback, helping you fine-tune your techniques and make informed adjustments.

Technical Skating Skills

The program focuses on the fundamental elements of skating, such as proper stride technique, balance, and edge control. Participants will learn to maximize their power through efficient use of body positioning, weight transfer, and extension, enabling them to generate greater speed and acceleration.

Instructors will focus on:

  • enhance lateral movement, pivoting, and crossovers
  • stride efficiency,
  • skating endurance
  • transition skills

All players will receive feedback while fostering a supportive learning environment.

Duration: Eight weeks

Dates:  Oct 18, 25, Nov 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 and Dec 6

Time: 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Total Hockey Player (U7 & U9)

The Total Hockey Player program is designed specifically for young players who are taking their early strides in hockey.

This camp provides a fun and supportive environment where players can develop essential skills, gain confidence on the ice, and ignite their passion for the game.

SKATING Technical and advanced detailed stride work, edgework, balance, and agility 

PUCK-HANDLING  Range of motion, keeping their eyes up, hands out in front, and rolling their wrists to cup the puck.

SHOOTING Proper technique, back-foot shooting, front-foot shooting, and shooting in stride.

PASSING Proper technique, forehand passes, pass reception, and pass reception in motion.

 Each week, the program will emphasize a fun and engaging learning environment through various skill-building activities. These include relay races, obstacle courses, and mini-games that focus on developing specific skills in an enjoyable way. These activities foster camaraderie, improve agility, and enhance overall athleticism while keeping young players excited and motivated.
