SAMHA is pleased to again offer an Intro to Hockey program for kids new to hockey and born in 2012/2013/2014. To see basic information Please Click Here
Participants will be on the ice once a week, the program will run for 12 weeks and will cost $250.00. Registration will begin June 1, 2018.
To register your child for Intro to Hockey you will need to first complete the Respect In Sport - Parent program. This is an online program that one parent from each family must take. It takes approximately 1.5 hours to complete and has a cost of around $12.00. (If you have taken this course previously for another child in hockey please follow the link to the course and log into your RIS-Parent account, click on Profile and Child Management and make sure all your children are added there.) When this is complete you will receive a certificate number which you will need for registration.
You will need to complete the Parent Declaration Form and individually scan the form and a copy of the child’s birth certificate and a current utility bill to your computer (forms must be scanned as separate files, not all together). You will then need to do the online registration. There is a section of the registration called Registration Uploads, this is where you will upload the form and documents. When you have completed registration you should get a confirmation email.
From there you will need to watch the Intro To Hockey page on the SAMHA website for more information as to the start of the session.
Intro to Hockey - Minimum ability on the ice
It is our recommendation to ensure your child is comfortable on the ice, that they have a limited skating ability (even walking) to ensure they don't get discouraged and feel comfortable through the on-ice instruction.
Some of the instruction will be based around skating techniques but the focus will not be skating lessons. To ensure you child fully enjoys their first experience, getting comfortable on saktes and as well on the ice in equipment is recommended. This can be done through the recreation ice at Servus Place and the City of St. Albert's public skating before the program starts on November 26th.
Children having the ability to walk, glide, fall and get up on their own on the ice is a great starting based for the program!
