Welcome to the 2022-2023 hockey season!

Now that teams are formed, coaches and team staff have been appointed, and games are underway, we look forward to an exciting 2022-2023 hockey season!

St. Albert Minor Hockey Association (SAMHA) has a strong hockey community supported by dedicated volunteers, members, players, and loyal hockey fans who make our sport great. SAMHA strives to be a leader in the hockey community, and we take pride in fostering a culture of good sportsmanship, respect and integrity.

In my 8+ years as a volunteer and board member with the association, I enjoy the opportunity to give back my time and energy to this association, which has provided one of my own children with many years of great coaching, wonderful experiences and even championship seasons. I have also enjoyed working with our many volunteers - who continue to provide services and opportunities for players in our association to enjoy.

Some of you may be aware that some new and significant changes were brought forward this pre-season to the organizational structure of our association. This past summer, we formed the Raiders Hockey Committee and welcomed ten volunteers to this Committee. The Committee oversees the AA and AAA program operations in SAMHA. In addition to this change, the former John Reid Memorial Tournament committee stepped down in late August, and a new organizing committee was formed. On January 19th -22nd  we will welcome 16 U15 AAA teams from Western Canada and the United States to participate in the 44th annual John Reid Memorial Tournament, and we can’t wait for you to be part of this legacy. Our Committee will be sharing more information over the next couple of months.

Earlier this year, SAMHA also committed to growing hockey in our community. We introduced the Recreation Hockey program to U11 and U13 players and are very excited to have seven teams participating in the EFHL Recreation Hockey League. We firmly believe this program is a significant step forward to help support the growth of hockey in our community.  We've also expanded our SAMHA Cares program to support families who may need financial support with team fees this season and our partnership with KidSport has helped to offset registration fees for qualified families on our program.

I am eager to forge ahead with our CORE values of Integrity, Innovation, Transparency, Consistency, Collaboration and Responsiveness as we are working hard to create a positive hockey culture that will impact every aspect of the sport in our great community. By setting higher standards to adhere to, we hope that others will be attracted and engaged in collaborating and communicating effectively in the best interest of all we serve. We also acknowledge there has been a lot of change! Change is never easy, and we appreciate your patience and understanding. We are continuously finding ways to improve as an organization and to be as transparent and efficient as possible.

A special thank you to our volunteers, coaches and staff for the countless hours and sacrifices they make, visibly and behind the scenes. This hard work and dedication will benefit the growth of SAMHA, and your efforts do not go unnoticed. I encourage anyone wishing to volunteer to do so, as the continued success of our non-profit organization depends mainly on volunteers and the participation of our members. Let's all play a part in making hockey a positive experience for everyone.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to thank our sponsors and local businesses who are truly invested in our success. You are the financial energy that drives our teams; our season would not be possible without your support.

Lastly, I would like to thank the parents; over the next couple of weeks, the snow will start to fall, and the cold air will be felt inside and outside the rink. Cheer loud, stay warm and enjoy your season. Take it from me, I've been through it all, and this time goes by fast. Cherish the wins, the losses and everything in between.

Have a great season, and thank you for your continued support.

See you at the rink!
