Recreation Hockey
SAMHA remains committed to offering a recreational hockey option through the Edmonton Federation Hockey League for players in U11, U13, U15, and U18.
This league provides participants with a less structured program with 18 games during the season.
The focus is on participation, fun and meeting new people. It is a non-body-checking alternative to the current mainstream hockey model.
To register for any St. Albert Minor Hockey Association program, you must have a Hockey Canada Identification Number. You will receive this number after you complete the” Respect In Sport - Parent Edition (RIS)”
What is Recreation Hockey?
St. Albert Minor Hockey offers a recreational hockey option through the Edmonton Federation Hockey League (EFHL) for players in U11, U13, U15, and U18. This league provides participants with a less structured program with 18 games during the season. Teams will play ten games in St. Albert; the remaining games will be in the Edmonton area. The focus is on participation, fun and meeting new people. It is a non-body-checking alternative to the current mainstream hockey model.
Players will have access to additional skill development sessions through the STA Advance program. There are additional costs associated with these programs.
How is Recreation Hockey different from mainstream hockey?
- Players can enter a full team into the league.
- No evaluations
- No additional costs or team fees.
- No standings.
- No exhibition, tournament or playoff games.
- Recreation hockey is for players who love the game and want to remain involved or get started in hockey.
- This is non-competitive hockey that provides a less structured program for players aged 9 - 18.
