St. Albert Referee Information
2024-2025
Interested in becoming a St. Albert Referee for the upcoming season?
- New and returning officials must register with the North Region by December 15, 2024.
How do I register?
- New and returning officials clinic in St. Albert is scheduled for October 5th
- Starting in September, there is approximately 60 clinics in the North Zone
- Minimum age is 13 years old before December 31, 2024.

I am a First Year Official and/or an Official not registered with Hockey Alberta during the 2023-2024 season.
- To be eligible for registration in a clinic, you must complete the eLearning component from Hockey Canada.
- Contact Joe Becigneul to obtain the link for this program.
- ELearning tutorial opens mid-August.
- Who attends?
- Any official who will be 13-15 years old before January 1, 2025.
- Any Level Two (and above) Official who does not have continuous service with Hockey Alberta or another branch of Hockey Canada.
- Any Official not registered in the 2023-2024 season.
- You must complete the eLearning portion before proceeding to clinic registration.
What’s Next?
- Following eLearning portion, register for the New and Returning Officials Clinic.
- Registration and payment of fees is completed on-line.
- Applicable Hockey Alberta and Hockey Canada fees.
- Canadian Hockey Association mandatory insurance fee must be paid for any official not registered as a minor hockey player in the current season.
- Officials registered as players in Raiders Hockey or STA Hockey are not required to pay this insurance fee as it is captured in player registration.
- Important! Full attendance for the entire clinic is mandatory. Anyone who does not complete the clinic will be ineligible to referee hockey for the 2024-2025 season.
What to expect?
- St. Albert Clinic:
- Tentatively scheduled for October 5, 2024, between 08:00 and 16:30.
- Full referee gear is not required for clinic.
- (8) hours of combined classroom and on-ice instruction.
- Required materials:
- Download Hockey Canada app for Rules and Casebook
- Required equipment for officials during the season:
- First year officials require a Hockey Alberta sweater crest and Hockey Canada shoulder patch. Available at your clinic.
- Red Armband – purchased at sporting apparel and gear retail locations.
- Black, CSA certified helmet.
- CSA certified visor.
- Metal or black whistle, hockey specific.
- Black, polished skates with white laces.
- Black, pressed pants.
